Soul Check-Up

Is it time for a good soul cleaning?

Do you focus on the health of your physical body by eating good foods, exercising and going to the doctor? It’s easy to focus on the physical because it can be seen. But your soul is seen by the choices you make, the words you speak, the actions you take and the emotions you exhibit. I would say that for most it is a bit harder to diagnose. I propose this question, does it need attention also just like your body does? The answer is “YES”! Your soul needs regular check-ups.

Have you ever put your body through a detox with juice fasting, clonics, coffee enemas, supplements or one of the many other different ways to detox the body of harmful and unwanted metals and toxins? The soul also gets a build up of unwanted substances that need to be removed for optimal soul health. The great news is that this type of check-up is free.

We throw the word “soul” around quite often in phrases like soul train, soul food, music to my soul but what do we really know about the soul?

“Books are the mirrors of the soul.” ― Virginia Woolf, Between the Acts

If only our eyes saw souls instead of bodies, how different our ideals of beauty would be.” Unknown Author

Your SOUL began in the womb after you were conceived. It will exist forever. It is who you are and what you are made of. It is your individuality- your thoughts, your will, and your emotions. It began as a product of your mother and father and grew according to the influence fed into it by life circumstances and choices. If you could dissect it, you would find millions of layers. Each layer representing a word read, heard or spoken-every event, every celebration, every trauma. It is made up of days, hours and minutes of your experiences. When I visualize this, I cannot help but think of the Disney movie Shrek.

Shrek say to Donkey, “Ogres are like onions. Ogres have layers. Onions have layers. You get it? We both have layers.” Later, out of frustration Donkey says to Shrek, “You’re so wrapped up in layers, onion boy, you’re afraid of your own feelings!”

If we never face our fears, problems, emotions and other experiences head on and deal with them properly they can become strong holds in our minds causing us to act like Shrek (a bitter person).

When a see a psychologist he or she often takes you back to reflect on a certain time or event that changed the course of you life, it is to get to the root of the issue. It was buried underneath the layers and covered up. The memories can later surface and come to mind if they are disturbed.

Think of your eyes, your ears and your heart as gates into your soul. Evil is disguised in many different ways so that it can enter into our gates to influence us in the ways of darkness. The evil tries to take over and destroy whomever and whatever lies in it’s path. Just as a country needs safe borders to keep terrorists out, we must guard our gates from enemy attacks against our soul.

Some of these attacks are quite obvious such as horror movies, suggestive lyrics in songs and hateful, vile acts against individuals and humanity. We recognize physical abuse, hate crimes and torture as being attacks against an individual or group of people. Healing is required to help remove the imprints left behind, whether you are on the giving or receiving end. They must be removed from the person’s inner-most being.

Also, every word we read, hear or say is deposited into our soul. If they are good and clean, our soul prospers but if they are negative or hurtful, they leave behind wounds.

What most people don’t understand is how subtle these damaging attacks can be. They are sneaky and can be wrapped in a layer of nearly 100 percent truth or goodness but the poison is still effective. We have all engaged in opening our gates wide open to let these parasites into our soul unknowingly. A harmless movie about witchcraft such as Harry Potter, a book about lustful desires such as 50 Shades of Grey, checking our horoscope or getting a palm reading for fun, engaging in physical devil worship such as yoga or some martial arts practices or hearing and spreading gossip such is found all over Hollywood tabloid magazines and entertainment shows on TV. I will be sure to go into much more detail about this subject in future blogs.

The problems we face in the world such as crime, greed, evil, fear, addiction, and many other instances of suffering generally boils down to the condition of the soul. It can be a person’s soul or collectively the soul of a nation or province. It is obvious to me that the soul has been forgotten about and I think it is time we turn our focus back to caring for our souls.

Feed your soul good things.

“Do things that feed your soul, not your ego and you will be happy.” – Robert Tew

When we are surrounded by positivity, hear encouraging words, watch wholesome movies and listen to descent music we have a slight advantage over someone with the opposite life experiences. When we feed our soul good things, our soul prospers.

Your soul is made up of layers like rings in a tree.

You don’t have a soul.

                 You are a soul.

                               You have a body.”

                                                   – C.S. Lewis

Kat Kerr is a wonderful woman of the Christian faith. She teaches a simple yet profound way that we, as individuals, can take control ourselves and as a result walk in newness of life by continuous cleansing our souls. She calls this process a “Soul Check-up”. It can be done by yourself or with others. It only takes a couple minutes but is highly effective. You can do it as often as you wish. She recommends it at least once a week. She recommends that you do not have to be a believer in Christ to participate and that the healing comes whether you are a born-again Christian or not.

The steps you will take to clean out your soul are simply. By making the following declarations you are loosing the bad, binding the good and receiving the healing in your soul. You will state the words that follow out loud and with meaning from your heart. You can start with the blanket statement below but then get to the specifics and add anything that haunts you or comes to your mind or any traumatic or unfavorable memories.

Say from your heart with conviction:

1. “Father, I choose as an act of My Will to loose all negative, hateful, hurting, bashing, trashing, angry, judgmental, wasteful words and/or images from my soul right now in Jesus’ name. I will no longer participate with anything that brings death, fear or defilement nor tolerate them in my life.”

2. “Father I now choose as an act of My Will, to have you bind to my soul – Your Love, Your Presence, Your Joy, Your Life, Your Power, Your Truth, Your Plans and Your Hope and cause my soul to prosper, in Jesus’ name.”

3. “I RECEIVE IT.”

Galatians 5:16-18 “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh—and these are contrary the one to the other—so that you cannot do the things that you would. But if you are led of the Spirit, you are not under the law.”
